Keyboard shortcuts and appearance

Keyboard shortcuts in an open thread (j, k, u, e, s, r, f…), opening in a new tab, dark theme and the interface language.

Keyboard shortcuts in a thread

With a thread open you can work from the keyboard, Gmail-style. The shortcuts only work in the thread view — the thread list itself has none.

Key What it does
j Next thread (in the same folder or the same search results)
k Previous thread
u Back to the list
e Archive (or Restore in an archived thread)
! Report spam — with confirmation
# Delete (to Trash) — with confirmation
s Star / unstar
Shift+U or Shift+I Mark as unread
m Mute / unmute
l Open the label picker
r Expand the reply form
f Forward (the first message shown in the thread)

The shortcuts are also listed in the button tooltips, e.g. "Archive (e)", "Next · J".

When the shortcuts don't fire:

  • when the cursor is in a text field (reply, search) — letters are typed as normal;
  • with Ctrl, Alt or Cmd held down — those combinations are left to the browser;
  • when the action isn't available for your permission scope (e.g. e with "View + send") — the key does nothing.

Other keys: Esc closes the attachment preview. In the thread list you can reach a row's account address with Tab; Enter then narrows the list to that mailbox.

New tabs and browser buttons

  • Ctrl+click (Cmd+click on a Mac) or a middle-click opens a thread, folder or list page in a new tab.
  • A normal click swaps only the middle of the screen, but the address in the browser bar changes — you can copy it and send it to another member of the organisation.
  • The browser's back and forward buttons move between the views you've visited without reloading the page.

Dark theme

The button with the moon icon (a sun in dark mode) in the header switches between light and dark theme.

The mailbox in dark theme
  • Until you use the switch, Faldro follows your operating system's setting.
  • Your choice is saved in this browser — on another computer or phone you set it separately.
  • Message content adapts too: plain text gets light lettering on a dark background, and messages with their own colours (newsletters, signatures with a background) are colour-inverted so you don't end up with dark text on a dark background. Photos and graphics keep their original colours.

Interface language

The switcher with the language code (PL, EN, DE) in the header opens a list: Polski, English, Deutsch. Your choice is saved to your user account, so it applies on every device you sign in on.

The interface language doesn't change the content of your mail or folder names that come from the server — it changes Faldro's buttons, menus and messages. System folder names (Inbox, Sent…) are translated.
