Attachments

Adding files to a message, size and count limits, downloading and previewing attachments in a thread, on-demand files and an overview of the organisation's attachments.

Adding files

The new message window, the reply under a thread and the forward form all have an Attach files button. In the new message window you can also drag files onto the window — a "Drop files to attach" frame appears.

The chosen files are listed below the button with their name and size; the × next to a file removes it from the message. Further picks and drops add to the list.

Limit Value
Size of a single file 25 MB
Files per message 20

The recipient's server and your own SMTP server have their own limits on the size of the whole message, and encoding attachments for sending makes them larger. For big files, sending a link is the safer choice.

Attachments aren't saved in drafts. After resuming a draft, and after "Cancel and edit" on a scheduled message, you need to add the files again.

When forwarding, the original's attachments aren't included automatically — download them and add them by hand. Sent files go to the Sent folder along with the message, including on the IMAP server.

Attachments in a thread

Below a message's body is the list of its attachments (excluding images embedded in the body, which you see in the message itself). In the thread list, messages with an attachment show a paperclip icon.

  • Clicking an image (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP) or a PDF opens a preview over the inbox, without downloading.
  • Other files download straight away.
  • A file marked on demand is a large attachment (above the installation's threshold, 5 MB by default) that Faldro doesn't copy during sync — clicking it fetches it from the IMAP server.
  • The message "Attachments are present in the original — re-sync the account to fetch them." means fetching the files failed; a manual sync of the account helps.

You can also download the full message with all its attachments as an .eml file — see Thread view.

The whole organisation's attachments

An administrator has two places to review files:

  • Settings → What takes up space — the Largest attachments section with a link to each message; useful when you're approaching your plan's storage limit.
  • Organization attachments at /mail/admin/attachments — a table of every file from every mailbox: File, Type, Size, From account, Subject / sender, Added; 50 per page. The page has no menu entry — you open it by typing the address.

Both pages are for browsing only — there are no delete buttons on them.
