Server rejects the mailbox password
What the red banner on the accounts list means, why fetching pauses, and how to resume it.

What happened
The provider's server responded to the IMAP login attempt with a refusal. Faldro doesn't keep retrying (providers block IP addresses for that), and instead pauses fetching from that mailbox, shows a red banner on the accounts list, and retries less and less often. After several failed attempts, checking is suspended until a new password is saved.
The banner shows: how many mailboxes are affected, when the last successful sync was, and when the next attempt will be.
Most common causes
- The password was changed with the provider — including when an admin did it, or a company policy forced it.
- The provider requires an app password (Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Apple, Fastmail, Zoho, WP, o2, Interia). A regular webmail password is rejected. List: which providers work.
- The app password was revoked — e.g. after changing the main password, or turning off Google's 2-step verification, which deletes all app passwords.
- Username without the domain — some servers require the full address (
jan@company.com), others just the login. Settings detection usually gets this right, but it's worth checking after manual edits. - The mailbox is blocked or inactive with the provider (unpaid hosting, exhausted limit, blocked for spam).
How to fix it
- Click Fix password on the banner (or open the account for editing).
- Enter the current password; generate a new app password with the provider if needed.
- Click Test connection — don't save until the test passes.
- Save. Faldro will ask for your Faldro password (identity confirmation) and resume syncing right away.
Mailbox passwords are encrypted and never sent back to the browser, so the edit form always shows an empty password field. An empty field on save means: keep the existing one.
